Love never dies

By Peachy Impressions, Dec 4 2018 12:23PM

I have had the privilege of working with Sara and Robert for the past 18 months. This wedding was one of the most joyful and heart breaking I have ever been involved with, tears are already starting to trickle down my face. When I first met Sara and Robert, they had been engaged for 3 years and their wedding date was set for Saturday 22nd September 2018.

Robert was stationed overseas, therefore the amount of time Robert was able to spend in person with Sara to plan their wedding day was limited. Sara and I set to work on designing their dream vintage wedding invitations and with the help of skype Robert was able to be involved. Robert being in a different county with a different time zone added to the wedding planning fun and excitement. They were both extremely happy, excited and very much in love. The wedding planning was all going to plan, they had booked the church, a perfect wedding venue, cars, cake and entertainment. Sara was leaving our meeting to meet with her Mum and bridesmaids to choose her wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses. We scheduled our next meeting to discuss their on the day wedding stationery requirements. The room was filled with laughter and happiness. Exciting happy times lie ahead and as always, I was so looking forward the wedding up-dates at our next meeting.

Sara’s final stationery consultation soon approached. To my surprise both Sara and Robert attended. There was much sadness in their eyes and their happiness and excitement was no longer visible. It was obvious that something was wrong. Sara and Robert’s love for each other was however still very visible. Robert held Sara’s hand tight as Sara shared with me her devastating news. Sara’s mother had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sara (we) fought back the tears as we discussed what on the day wedding stationery she required. Table plans and wedding favours understandably were no longer important. This was a heart-breaking time, but Sara was determined to stay strong, she was now planning the wedding her mother was dreaming of. Sara and Robert were still dreaming of their perfect day, just a different perfect.

Sara and Robert's wedding day arrived. Their kindness, resilience and unwavering courage serves a reminder of what’s truly important on the wedding day. There were of course tears of sadness but also tears of happiness and many happy memories were made that will be treasured and never forgotten. For one day the entire family agreed not to discuss the cancer and for one day happiness and laughter returned. Sara said it was so hard not to think about it but seeing the proud happy smiles on her mother’s face is what she will and wanted to remember.

Sadly, Sara’s mother’s health deteriorated very quickly after the wedding and she lost her battle with cancer 58 days later.

I wish Sara and Robert much strength and future happiness and thank Sara for allowing me to share her story. Love never dies.
